The province of Alicante is the southernmost of the three provinces of the Autonomous Community of Valencia, on the East of Spain. Its mild and sunny weather almost all year round have attracted hundreds of thousands of tourists from all over Europe.
The famous Costa Blanca is the name for the coastline of the province of Alicante. With more than one hundred kilometres of sunny beaches and with tropical vegetation, preserved from the continental temperatures by a range of mountains, it has become the second home for thousands of families.
The city of Alicante is a great starting point from which to explore the many highlights which the Costa Blanca has to offer. This millenary settlement is the second largest in the Valencia region. The combination of tradition and modernity provides entertainment for everybody, from museums and historical sites to an exciting night life. In its two shopping areas, the traditional Rambla de Mendez Núñez and the modern area of Maisonnave you will find from local crafts to designer shops. The bustling street market takes place along the Explanada in summer with an amazing display of casual clothes, pottery, jewellery and decorative items. Alicante represents an authentic gastronomic paradise for the discerning palates with unbeatable fish and paella rice dishes.
The outstanding natural beauty of the area discloses enchanting villages, nature reserves, caves, waterfalls and stunning sandy beaches which have been complemented with theme parks, safari parks, lively markets, internationally-renowned golf courses and a wide range of water sports to produce a fantastic holiday destination. Benidorm, Altea, Elche, Torrevieja, Santa Pola, Denia and Peñíscola are all superb tourists destinations well known in Europe.

Tabarca is the only inhabited island in the Autonomous Community of Valencia and a real attraction for visitors of Alicante. Located only 8 kms off the coast of Cape Santa Pola and about 250 metres in length, this islet has been declared both a Historic-Artistic Monument and a Mediterranean Marine Nature Reserve, given the excellent quality of its waters and the biodiversity of its fauna and flora. After a short trip by boat, you will find a medieval fort, a pleasant little beach and some fine seafood restaurants.
The Alicante area is very well communicated with the rest of the country by the road, with the AP-7 which runs along all the Mediterranean coast of Spain and the N-III which links the coast to Madrid. The Alicante International Airport is one of the biggest in Spain for charter flights and the Airport of Murcia is also very suitable if your destiny is the South of the province. |
